Yuma Summer Reading Program

YUMA, Ariz. — The Yuma summer reading program comes to the Yuma County Library District this summer. The initiative provides residents with a structured, entertaining path to keep their minds active during the hottest months of the year.

The primary objective of the initiative is to combat the notorious “summer slump,” where students lose academic progress over the summer. By transforming reading into an interactive event, librarians hope to keep reading skills sharp before schools reopen in the fall.

Unearth a Story…

This year’s program features the evocative theme, “Unearth a Story.” This theme encourages participants to discover new genres, unfamiliar authors, and explore a vast collection of narratives. Which also unifies the various events and activities scheduled throughout the season.

Library officials emphasize that they intentionally built the program for readers of all ages. This allows everyone, from toddlers and school-aged children to teenagers and adults, to help families model healthy reading habits together.

Organizers invite participants to download and utilize a dedicated tracking app to log their daily reading time with their favorite books. Additionally, digital tracking simplifies the process, allowing busy families to maintain their logs on the go from any smartphone or tablet.

This year’s challenge includes an exciting incentive program where readers can win various prizes as they reach specific milestones. The reward system provides positive reinforcement, keeping younger readers motivated to hit their weekly goals.

The Yuma summer reading program challenge costs nothing and runs now through July 18th. Library staff welcome the community to step out of the Arizona heat and visit their neighborhood branches to register. So, come pick out your introductory books and join the city-wide effort.

Residents looking for additional information can visit the library district’s dedicated online portal. This provides information for branch calendars, registration details, and instructions on using the official tracking app.
